Our entryway is basically a small hallway. Both our front door and the garage door open up up into this room, making it a high-traffic surface area and the first impression people see when they walk in the door. Well, our entry was a hot mess and then I set out to transform this tiny infinite (aka i itty bitty wall) into a stylish, functional entryway.

Here's what information technology looked like earlier I began this room makeover. It was a mess of things that never constitute a dwelling afterward we moved here terminal autumn. We used that bookcase as an entry console of sorts in our terminal home then I shoved it here every bit a temporary fix, but it just didn't fit our new infinite very well.

I don't have a ton of time to piece of work on decorating projects these days, but when I do, I endeavor to choose a small area to focus on. This makes the projection manageable for me to consummate and means I become to run into the finished results faster than if I were to attempt tackling a huge space all at once. Little by little, all of these small projects build momentum and add upwardly to a big improvement in our home.

Allow me evidence you around this small entryway!

Our Small Entryway Makeover

Our "entryway" is really just this small wall along our staircase. This piffling hallway leads to the dorsum of the house where our kitchen/dining/living area is. It may be a small infinite, just I knew there was a way to pack a lot of style and function into this area!

Here's a floor programme to aid you lot become acclimated. I highlighted the "entry" surface area:

Hither's a quick look at how this space has changed:

You guys! I'm so in love with this infinite! I know information technology's just a tiny wall, simply it makes such a large impact in our habitation and I cannot expect to carry that style throughout the rest of our principal floor. What a big improvement from that plain beige wall we had when we moved in!

Adding Character With DIY Board And Batten And Navy Pigment

The main alter to the wall is the improver of DIY board and crossbar that I painted navy. I'm working on a huge web log post with all of the details of that lath and batten project, so stay tuned for that!

This house is your standard, run-of-the-mill builder house in the suburbs and I'yard adamant to add together some unique grapheme and architectural details to it. The DIY board and batten is a skillful first step! Information technology was a great excuse to make use of my Ryobi miter saw and brad nailer.

When I added the board and batten, I also replaced the small baseboard with a much chunkier and more than modern baseboard that I programme to somewhen carry throughout the rest of our main floor. You tin can see a flake of the original oak baseboards past the round ottoman in this photo:

I debated between several bluish paint colors for this wall and am super happy I went with the dark navy. It's Midnight Blue by Behr and is a gorgeous true navy blue color. I am thinking the rest of the main floor will exist painted white or a very light grey, which will make this navy wall pop even more every bit an emphasis wall.

Organizing Our Entry With A Console Table

I searched high and low for a long console table that would fit on this wall and am in dear with this marble and wood console tabular array I chose! It's the perfect combination of style and function and the faux marble pinnacle looks remarkably realistic. Yous can run across some of the other affordable console tables I considered in my before blog mail.

I'thou going to share more details about the organizational aspects of this fiddling space in a weblog mail adjacent week.

Adding Brass Accents To Our Navy Entry

Once the DIY board and crossbar was installed, the wall was painted and the console tabular array was in place, information technology was fourth dimension to hang the round brass mirror and brass sconce. These were a big part of my pattern for this pocket-size entryway makeover and they actually practise add a lot of style to this space.

I planned the board and batten and then the mirror would be centered on i of the vertical battens and centered over the panel table. I call back a mirror in an entryway is a must and this one adds a lot of style!

I found this affordable brass sconce that plugs into an outlet then in that location's no demand for electric work. If you follow me on Instagram, you heard all most my dilemma in hanging this sconce.

Like I mentioned, I planned everything to eye on ane of the vertical battens but didn't account for the fact that the base of my sconce was wider than my batten board. Oops! Afterwards some pondering, I wound upward cutting a couple circular pieces to add to the wall to create a solid base for my sconce. Information technology was a pretty piece of cake set up! I was a petty nervous information technology would look bad-mannered, but I call back information technology turned out really well and looks seamless with the rest of the navy wall.

Adding Fine art & Accessories

I wanted to contain some art on this wall to fill the empty space to the right of the panel tabular array. The console table is placed on the left side of the wall to make room for our coat cupboard door to swing open up into the hallway.

So I filled the blank wall across from the glaze closet with a few frames, a new letterboard (that I'm super excited to play effectually with) and a couple uncomplicated hooks that are more often than not decorative but are handy for a guest to hang their purse or jacket.

I filled the panel table with a few accessories and storage pieces that all add a lot of style to the infinite as well as plenty of organization.

I originally wanted a console table with airtight drawers or shelves for storage, just ultimately decided that this open table blueprint would feel lighter in such a small hallway. The lesser shelf of the table is the perfect identify for a few decorative baskets and bins to shop odds and ends.

The meridian of the table is filled with a few pretty things, like these candlesticks and this glass vase filled with clippings from 1 of our bushes. The bowl (from TJ Maxx) is a catch-all for our keys, loose modify, and little odds and ends.

There is enough space left on the table to set out messages and small items then we don't forget to take hold of them on our fashion out the door.
